Mid Devon District Council received the South West Charter Member Development award for its commitment to meeting the learning needs of its councillors by developing their skills, knowledge and performance.
To gain the award, the council had to demonstrate that the process was led by councillors; how the learning needs of councillors were obtained; and how those needs were met.
The Member Development Group has responsibility for the development of councillors. This group consists of the leaders of the groups which make up the council as well as other interested councillors.
Councillor Paul Williams said: “I am very pleased that the council received the Charter for Member Development. It recognises the importance that the council places on training its councillors and ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles. I would like to thank the Member Development Group from the last administration and the Member Services officer team for all their hard work.”
