Barbican Theatre’s four day summer school, Frame Your Future is the perfect way for young performers to start their holidays.
Frame Your Future is ideal training for young people aged 12 – 19 who would love to perform in a professional theatre, develop their confidence on and off stage, learn skills across the performing arts (dancing, acting and singing) and meet like minded young people. The theatre’s summer school is also great experience for people who are studying or planning to study GSCE or A Level Dance or Drama.
Over the four days, participants will train in a professional theatre with inspirational artists including a Choreographer, Theatre Director, Film Maker and Photographer. They will learn how to improve their technique and how to use digital technology to enhance their performance skills. The participants will put all this into practice by showing their high quality original performance to an audience at Barbican Theatre.
As a memento of their time at the theatre, the young people who take part in Frame Your Future will be given a DVD and photographs from the training, rehearsals and final performance.
Lanea Joffrey (16) explained what she gained from the 2013 summer school: “Frame Your Future looked so fun and I knew other things at the Barbican Theatre have been fantastic, so I signed up… The facilitators are really supportive and you can have a joke with them too! When I came here two years ago, I didn’t have that much confidence and slowly I’ve gotten more confident, and the skills I have learnt have helped me outside of the theatre as well.”
When asked about what participants can expect from Frame Your Future, Barbican Theatre’s dance director Jules Laville said: “Yes we work the young people hard, but also we play hard; making and rehearsing for a performance is fun. Participants develop new technical, creative, performance and life skills as well as being part of a high quality performance they can feel proud of.
“We are a friendly professional theatre and welcome people of all abilities and experience to take part. Please do get in touch if you would like to talk to us and find out if Frame Your Future is suitable for your child or young person.”
The summer school takes place at the Barbican Theatre (Castle Street, Plymouth, PL1 2NJ) from Monday, July 28 –Thursday July 31, with the Frame Your Future performance on Thursday, July 31 at 7pm.
