Specialists in luxury horseback experiences, Liberty Trails are launching a new multi-day riding challenge across Dartmoor, Devon – The Dartmoor Derby.
In association with brand Ambassadors, Mary King MBE and President of the British Horse Society and actor Martin Clunes OBE, this idea is the first of its kind in the UK, and is tipped to put Dartmoor firmly on the map as a world-class destination for equestrian sport.
To launch the Dartmoor Derby, an exclusive event is taking place for only 30 riders between 25th and 28th September 2015.
Riders will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the beauty of Dartmoor as they cover approximately 50 miles in two days; riding through open moorland, forests and sites of historic interest experiencing some of the best views in the world.
Spanning three nights, accommodation will include a specially constructed luxury safari camp on the moor, where a top chef will serve superb meals using local ingredients, showcasing the best of Devon produce. Riders will also spend one night at the award-winning, family-owned Arundell Arms on the west side of Dartmoor, and one night at the luxurious country house hotel Bovey Castle, on the east side.
This one-off event will set the scene for what is to come; in September 2016 a full-scale event will take place, hosting a maximum of 100 riders across 3-5 days. It will become the first official bi-annual Dartmoor Derby and tickets will be open to competent riders from around the world*.
Eventer and multiple Olympic medallist Mary King MBE has aligned with the Dartmoor Derby as brand Ambassador, and says, “As someone who’s enjoyed exploring Dartmoor for much of my life, I’m delighted it is hosting this very innovative and exciting new ride. Dartmoor’s scenery is as beautiful as you will find anywhere in the world, and the terrain provides terrific riding.”
In addition to Mary, actor and President of the British Horse Society, Martin Clunes OBE, has also joined as an Ambassador to the event and says, “As President of the British Horse Society, someone who loves riding and lives in the West Country, I am delighted to become an Ambassador for the Dartmoor Derby. Most of Britain’s riders pursue their sport to enjoy our wonderful countryside and develop a rewarding relationship with a horse. This new challenge ride celebrates both these things, and I hope riders from around the world will be encouraged to come and view some of our finest riding country in the best way possible, between two pricked ears.”
Local agencies supporting this project include Visit Dartmoor, the Dartmoor National Park Authority, Regional Growth Fund, Visit England and others. The Dartmoor Derby has been created and organised by the team behind existing top adventure riding business Liberty Trails, in partnership with The Riding Club London.
