Generous guests at a Torbay hotel have raised more than £1,500 for a local charity which gives away holidays to families living with serious illness and bereavement.
The Torbay Hotel in Torquay nominated the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN) as its charity of the year in 2016, holding raffles and race nights to raise money. In total, they raised £1,575.
Luke Tillen, founder and managing director of THHN, said: “We are so touched that the Torbay Hotel chose THHN to be their charity of the year for the second year running, and delighted with the impressive sum that they have raised.
“We are incredibly grateful to both the hotel staff and guests for their amazing support. The money will help fund memory-making holidays for families desperately in need of time out from the challenges in their lives.”
Simon Murray, manager of the Torbay Hotel, said: “I chose THHN as the charity the Torbay Hotel would support throughout 2016 after seeing the tremendous work that Luke Tillen was doing for such a worthy cause.
“Guests were really happy to participate in the events we staged, knowing that we were raising money for a local charity. Many commented on what a wonderful cause THHN was.”
The Torbay Hotel is part of the Shearings Group, which also provides accommodation to THHN families. Babbacombe-based THHN has given away more than 600 memory-making holidays since its inception in 2009.
Torbay-based tourism and other businesses provide free accommodation, food, passes to local attractions and gifts.
Guests are referred to THHN by national charities, including Clic Sargent, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Barnardo’s and Victim Support.
