The organisers of the popular Torbay Half Marathon have given the well loved event, now in its 29th year, a much needed refresh.
The event, which starts and finishes on Paignton Green, sees thousands of runners take part on Sunday 21st June has secured the sponsorship of local nursing and care agency thus renaming it the Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon – this support has enabled the event to invest in a new brand and website and hopes to further improve the runners experience.
The run is traffic-free and takes in stunning views of Torbay’s and runners from all over the country can finish their race with a post-run dip in the sea!
Organisers, Torbay Athletic Club, are delighted to have further developed the event by adding a brand new event the Ocean Healthcare Torbay 10k. The new event, running just one lap of the half marathon route, gives more runners the chance to experience the thrill of this event and makes an excellent first run experience. Families and those younger at heart can join in the Fun Run, organised by Torbay Holiday Helpers Network.
Ken Rudge MD Ocean Healthcare told the Devon Week: “We are delighted to be the title sponsor for the 2020 Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon and new Ocean Healthcare Torbay 10K.
Live Happy, Care Well
“These events tie in really well with our philosophy of ‘Live Happy, Care Well’ which we believe is really important to everyone. Running is especially good as it has so many health benefits and is accessible to everyone!”
The event has raised thousands for local charities over the years by both offering free run places and donations. One of the official charities is Rowcroft Hospice.
Alison Upton, Rowcroft’s Community Fundraising manager said: “We are thrilled to be working with Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon and 10k. Last year, Rowcroft runners raised over £14,000 to support patients in their local community.
“This year Team Rowcroft is even bigger, and with free training sessions, free running vests and a superhero eye mask – there is even more reasons to run for Rowcroft! We can’t wait for a great day.”
