Following on from their 2 Cooper St. sculptures back in September, North Devon metal work specialists Bill and Peach Shaw of Northam have just completed another large commission, writes Ray Goldsmith.
Traditional techniques
This one is for a Lincolnshire school, and portrays a Viking longship and Viking crew. The piece was constructed from mild steel shaped using traditional hammer forming techniques. The mild steel structure was then hot dip galvanised, a specialist process. The galvanised surface was patinated, and the copper and brass fittings added at the Northam studio.
Stone and stained glass
The commission was part of a project that includes a large stone sculpture and stained glass light panels. The team delivered the work to the school recently.
Cooper St continues
North Devon metal work specialists Bill and Peach said: “Now we are working on two more Cooper St. historical figurative sculptures that will complete the Cooper St. scheme.”
