There’s culture on your doorstep, whether that’s from close to, further afield, from the ages or looking to the future. Here are just five in Devon from this week… ish.

1.
Fit for an emperor
A ceramic seat sounds pretty special. Now think of a ceramic seat from the Ming dynasty that was made for an emperor. The Exeter Phoenix is pretty psyched (they said ‘excited‘) to host the #EmperorSeatTour. It’s part of the British Museum’s Spotlight Loan tour, which sees one of the largest porcelains in the Sir Percival David Collection calling into the Exeter museum.

2.
Contrasting Environments
Artists Sue Williamson and Sarah Morris are having a new two-woman show Contrasting Environments at Artizan Gallery, Torquay. The combination is rewardingly complementary and coherent, taking audiences on a cross-continent journey from the sharp city lines of Stockholm, to Venice’s shimmering canal reflections, all the way to the rural coastal fields of Devon, says the PRSD.

3.
Earth Wind Fire
Earth Wind Fire is a dance drama and marks MED Theatre’s return into the world of live performance. This new piece of work explores the concept of justice as central to tackling imbalance, centering justice for humans and for non-humans as part of a post-humanist approach to the Planet. This beautiful event in the magical Bridford Woodland Trust outdoor amphitheatre on June 27.

4.
Music video animation
Mal Bielecka, an Animation & Games student at Plymouth College of Art has been making their mark designing animated music videos, with their latest projects collaborating with artists RONEN and Dying in Designer.
The 21-year-old first tried their hand at animating music videos when RONEN, an emo rapper and producer based in Dallas, Texas, approached Mal via Instagram to animate the video for single Paranoia.

5.
Creative activities and social impact
The Positive Lights Project in Exeter is all set to become home to a community creative space. “I’m interested in creating a space for artists and practitioners to develop their own work, and then do that with other people within the community – so hopefully everybody wins,” dynamo behind the idea, photographer Brendan Barry told the PRSD.
