The new tourism company set up to promote Torbay, the English Riviera Tourism Company, has plans to spend £465,000 on destination marketing plus £200,000 on the marketing team.
Gvernment ministers from around Europe will meet today to discuss EU plans to encourage year-round tourism in places like Devon and Cornwall.
The head of Close Focus, the Kingsbridge tourism company which has just completed the marketing strategy for Teignbridge and the South Hams for the new Visit South Devon destination, and has won the contract to draw up the Bay’s own tourism approach, told businesses not enough people had heard of the English Riviera.
The expected increase in tourism in the South West because of the recession has not yet begun.
